Mom Kaupili, a former Molokai
Hi! My name is Riah-Te'a Kaupilikawaialaokalani Tataipu Sione. I was born on Jan. 13, 2008 in Honolulu and on Jan. 18 I was diagnosed with a heart defect called Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) as well as a heart murmur. After many exams, echocardiogram (EKG), chest x-rays, and sonograms, it was confirmed that there's a large opening between the ventricles.

I would need a miracle in order for the VSD to close up on its own. On Feb. 14 I saw my cardiologist and had x-rays done. My heart is bigger than normal and requires surgery sooner than I thought. I am not stable enough to have the surgery here in March. The next time the surgeon will be in town would be in June and that's too late. One of the most serious concerns would be having a heart failure. At this time we are looking between April and May to have the surgery done in San Diego at the San Diego Valley Children's Hospital.

My family and friends have come together to organize some fundraisers to help with my medical expenses. All proceeds from these donations will go to my expenses.

I need your help. We are currently seeking donations. Please contact my daddy Matt Sione if you have any questions.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Love,

Riah-Te'a Sione
